(SportsNetwork.com) - Two teams with three-game losing streaks - the Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons - will duke it out Sunday night at the Barclays Center. The Nets skid started with a home loss to the Miami Heat on Tuesday, then continued with a road setback to the Toronto Raptors Wednesday. On Friday, Brooklyn fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena, 95-91. Joe Johnson led five Nets players in double figures with 26 points. Johnsons 3-pointer with 41.8 seconds left made it 94-91 and Clevelands Kyrie Irving got stripped on his way to the basket at the other end, leaving the door open. The Nets pushed the ball up the floor rather than calling for a timeout, a move that ultimately backfired. Jarrett Jack passed to the top of the key to an open Johnson, who didnt catch the ball cleanly and had to swing to Kevin Garnett. The deflected pass found Garnett on the left wing, but his triple missed short. I thought theyd take the 3 away and maybe wed drive and go get a quick two then Id call timeout, said Nets coach Lionel Hollins. We were trying to get a play for Joe, and they kind of took that away. Joe found KG, and he had to take the shot. Mason Plumlee and Jack scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, for Brooklyn. Sergey Karasev added 12 and Garnett finished with 10 points. Guard Deron Williams left the game in the second quarter with a strained right calf. He finished with one point and five assists. The Pistons lost in Los Angeles to the Clippers, then dropped two straight at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Detroit fell to the Dallas Mavericks and Raptors to extend the slide to three. Against the Raptors on Friday, the Pistons lost, 110-100. The Pistons were led by Brandon Jennings 22 points and eight assists. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope chipped in 18 points on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Greg Monroe added 17 off the bench, while Caron Butler scored 11 in his reserve role. Josh Smith had 10 points and Andre Drummond, who started a minor scuffle with a hard foul of James Johnson, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked three shots. It was a game in the first half, but Toronto pushed it open with fine play over the final 24 minutes. The Raptors scored 60 points in the paint and left Detroit with an angry head coach. We had absolutely no defensive will or resolve whatsoever, said Stan Van Gundy. Sixty points in the paint. Youre not doing anything defensively when you give that up. Brooklyn beat the Pistons in Detroit on Nov. 1 and have taken two in a row in this series. The Nets have won three of four and seven of nine against the Pistons as the host. Vapormax Cheap Sale . In sunny and almost windless conditions, the Swede shot four consecutive birdies on the front nine on his way to a 68 and went 9 under for a one-shot lead over Englands Lee Slattery and two over Paraguays Farbrizio Zanotti (68). The Sundsvall, Sweden, native has posted 232 goals and 230 assists in 894 career NHL games with Toronto, Tampa Bay, Columbus, Los Angeles and Atlanta and has appeared in 57 post-season contests, helping the Lightning capture the 2004 Stanley Cup Championship.GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Halfway through the Wyndham Championship, there is quite a crowd near the top of the leaderboard. Heath Slocum and Scott Langley share the lead at 10-under 130 through two rounds of the PGA Tours final event before the playoffs. Thirteen other players were two strokes or fewer back, including four -- Brian Stuard, Nick Watney, Martin Laird and Andrew Svoboda -- who were at 9 under. Local favourite Carl Pettersson -- the 2008 winner here who is one of nine players two strokes back -- offered some advice for those playing the course where he serves as a member of the board. "Youve got to keep your foot on the gas," he said. Since the tournament returned to Sedgefield Country Club in 2008, every two-day leader until now had been at 11 under or better. In what has become an annual rite of mid-August, the field is littered with players trying to prolong their seasons for at least one more week by cracking the top 125 on the points list and qualifying for the first round of the playoffs, which begin next week at The Barclays in New Jersey. Langley isnt one of them. The second-year pros main concern is chasing his first PGA Tour victory. He isnt feeling quite as much stress as he did here last year, when he missed the cut yet squeaked into The Barclays at No. 124. "Last year, so much going through my head as a rookie, not knowing how to handle it," Langley said. "I was thinking a little too much about things that I really have no control over in terms of keeping my card, what other guys are doing. Lesson learned." Langley ran off three straight birdies early in his 65 and closed with two in a row after putting both of his approach shots less than 6 feet from the stick. At NNo.dddddddddddd. 81 on the points list, his spot next week is safe. Slocums isnt. He is at No. 158 but is well aware that if you can get into the playoffs, anything can happen. Five years ago, he made the playoffs "by the skin of my teeth" at No. 124 -- and then went on to win The Barclays. "I came into this week trying to create a little bit of momentum for me to whether I could somehow get myself into the playoffs or the (Web.com) finals," Slocum said. Slocum had seven birdies during his 65 and moved atop the leaderboard after a run of four in a row late during his second consecutive 65. He sank a 20-foot birdie putt on the 13th before twice sticking approach shots within seven feet of the flagstick and converting those short putts. "It was a good stretch, and obviously at this point, youre going to need a lot," Slocum said. "Youre going to have some of that to keep yourself in contention and go for it." Indeed, that put him in position to challenge for his fifth PGA Tour victory and first since the McGladrey Classic in 2010. "I do miss this feeling of being in contention," Slocum said. "Not being in contention for a while, Im going to savour it." Svoboda briefly joined them at 10 under with a birdie on the 17th, but slipped back after missing a 20-foot par putt on the 18th and closing his 64 with a bogey. Among those bubble players who came to Sedgefield hoping to play their way into the post-season, No. 125 Paul Casey shot a 69 to move to 6 under and put himself well past the cut line of 2 under. Others ran into bubble trouble: No. 122 Robert Allenby, No. 127 Charlie Beljan and No. 128 Greg Chalmers were among the borderline players who missed the cut ' ' 'plaints about the Whitecaps effort, Robinson will be looking for another gear when defending-champion Sporting Kansas City visits B.C. Place Stadium on Sunday. Watch the game on TSN starting at 8pm et/5pm pt. "I think thats a daily thing. I think youve always got to give more," said the Welshman. "The day you think that youve done it or you stop giving more will be in the day that youre in the wrong sport. Well continue to work hard, whatever the results." The Whitecaps rocketed out of the gate to start the season thanks to an attack-minded and free-flowing system that had them scoring plenty of goals. But for all the good vibes early on, the last two months have seen Vancouver (6-4-11) pick up just a single victory to go along with four straight ties, including an dreary 0-0 road draw against the Chicago Fire on July 30. "Were very close to turning those draws into wins, but also were very close to having them taken away from us and (turned) into losses," said Robinson. "Were not getting carried away, were not losing many games, but I want to win more games." The Whitecaps were tied for the fewest losses in MLS heading into the weekend, but their 11 draws include games they really shouldve won going away if even one of a number of golden opportunities had been converted. "Weve missed chances, and in football its all about taking your chances. Thats why the big guys are paid the big bucks, because theyre able to take those chances," said Robinson. "Weve got ourselves in good positions but we havent been able to take them. Well continue to work at it. "Hopefully we can maybe get one in off a backside that might help us get flowing again." The killer instinct Vancouver showed early in the season has dried up since the beginning of June with just six goals in the last eight games — including a 30-shot performance in a 2-2 draw against FC Dallas on July 27 — and is in direct correlation with the clubs current 1-2-6 run. "When weve had the other team by the neck and playing well and creating a lot of chances, we need to put the games away scoring those goals," said Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted. "Thhats whats going to kill the other teams.dddddddddddd "I feel like our offensive play has been brilliant at times and when were playing like that we definitely need to put the chances away so we capitalize on our good periods." At the other end of the pitch, the Whitecaps have struggled to keep the ball out of their net at times thanks in large part to mental lapses at key moments. "I think weve been giving up some goals here and there that are our fault," said defender Jordan Harvey. "Once we clean that up I think well get the three points because weve been creating a lot of chances at home and playing really well. "We are a little frustrated with all the ties." Kansas City (11-5-6) entered the weekend tops in the Eastern Conference and has not lost in MLS play since May 31, a stretch of eight games (6-0-2). Sporting had four players take part in Wednesdays MLS all-star game against German powerhouse Bayern Munich, including defenders Aurelien Collin and Matt Besler, midfielder Graham Zusi and striker Dom Dwyer, who has 14 goals this season. The Whitecaps, meanwhile, didnt have any of their players involved in the showcase game in Portland, Ore., which seemed to suit them just fine as they look to pick up three points for the first time since a 1-0 victory over the Seattle Sounders on July 5. "Weve had a lot of draws, too many draws for my liking, and not enough wins," said Robinson. "It shows how close we are, but we just cant get over that line. Sundays a big game for us." Hes hopeful a good result in that big game will also give the Whitecaps the confidence moving forward as they look to climb back up the standings "Its a good test for this young group," Robinson said. "I think if we can give them a good game and show what were capable of — like we have most home games this year — were in with a chance. "If we do that do that hopefully we get better luck and get a victory." Notes: The Whitecaps bolstered their backline Friday by officially announcing the signing of defender Kendall Waston. The six-foot-five centre back joins Vancouver from Costa Rican club Deportivo Saprissa. ... Kansas City has won five straight road games, and a sixth Sunday would tie the club with the 2005 San Jose Earthquakes for most consecutive away wins in MLS history during the non-shootout era (2000-present). ... The Whitecaps next game is Aug. 16 at Chivas USA, while Kansas City hosts Toronto FC the same day. ' ' 'ter than we did, Hornets head coach Steve Clifford said of his teams 24-point turnaround. I did like the fact that when the game was on the line in the fourth quarter, at the end of the third and in overtime, we really tried hard to guard and we did a lot better. And guys made big plays. Charlotte improved to 9-1 over the last 10 regular-season games dating back to last season, including a five-game win streak from March 31-April 9. The Hornets will play six of the next eight games on the road after Saturday. Memphis improved to 2-0 in this young campaign with a 97-89 victory Friday night over the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Grizz won the battle of two of the NBAs elite defenses from last season with, you guessed it, defense. It was all defense for us, guard Mike Conley said. The defense got the stops that we needed them to and we got out in transition to get some easy buckets. The Pacers shot respectable percentages from the field, but the Grizzlies put the game away with a 33-14 third-quarter scoring differential. Memphis went on a 26-2 run during that pivotal 12-minute stretch. We played with a lot more aggressiveness in the second half so they werent able to get up as many shots and get up by as many points in the second half, noted Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger. Zach Randolph scored 22 points with 13 rebounds to lead the Grizzlies. Marc Gasol, coming off a career-high 32 points in Memphis season-opening win over Minnesota, deposited 20 points with six rebounds. Conley added 17 points in the win. Guard Courtney Lee suffered a mild concussion in the first half and his availability for Saturday is unknown. Memphis and Charlotte split two meetings last season. The Suns toppled the still-winless Los Angeles Lakers to start the season, then picked up an impressive victory Friday night when they stopped the defending champion San Antonio Spurs. Phoenix collected a 94-89 home win over the Spurs after it overcame an 11- point first quarter, which yielded a 13-point disadvantage. We kept telling the guys that we can win this game, head coach Jeff Hornacek said. Were not even playing that great. Hang in there. All of the sudden we got going a little bit. Thats the poise and the winning mentality that you have to have when the games get close, that were going to win the game. The Jazz were done in by Dallas fantastic shooting performance on Thursday night. The Mavericks went 47-for-85 from the field for a tidy 55.3 percent outing. We have to focus on the defensive end, said Favors. We did a good job with it in the preseason, and I think that got to our heads a little bit. We thought we were a good defensive team, and now reality set in. These two sides split four matchups last season as Phoenix won in Salt Lake City on Nov. 29.
